How Do You Know?

We come across different people everyday. I say different because not one person is exactly like you. They may be tall or they may be short. Some may have dark hair while others may have no hair at all. Some of these people may be super friendly while others tend to seem closed off. Whatever the different characteristics or personality traits they may have, they are still human. How do you know how important a person is? How do you know that person won’t one day cure cancer? How do you know if that one man, the one who wears the same clothes every day,  is not a millionaire? A millionaire who chooses to see how others react to his appearance , allowing that to determine whether he blesses them with 50,000  dollars or not. How do we, as a society, determine how to go about treating others? It is very simple. You show respect and offer them kindness. That does not seem to hard does it? Well in this day and age it is. Not because it was made to be hard, but we…WE make it hard. pexels-photo-638487.jpeg

Everybody is in a hurry to get to where they are going. Not once stopping to hold the door open for the lady behind them. It is just way to difficult to let the man with one item get in front of you in line. When you have a shopping cart full of two months worth of groceries. What about that young lady who was your waitress?  She waited on you hand and foot with a smile. Even when you and I both know you were being very difficult. Maybe you had a bad day, but how do you know that she did not have one too?  The point is to take a moment and slow down. Do not get in such a hurry  that you bypass manners. It’s okay to do something nice for someone. It’s even better when it is genuine. How do you know that same person won’t turn around and bless you. Not only bless you, but bless you 2 x’s over. Do not judge a person by one bad day for either of you. Do not judge a person for their appearance. Do not overlook a person because of your urgency to “get where you are going”.

How do you know the child, the one who talked a lot and would never let you leave, didn’t save you life? Stopping to talk to that young child for a few minutes may have prevented you from being involved in that car wreck down the road. If only a few minutes. I’m not saying that being nice and making a few courteous pit stops will save your life. I’m saying that slowing down and showing kindness could save a day. Save a day from being so terrible. Your kind gesture could save lives daily and you not even know it. You just never know the possible benefits of slowing down and being able to act as a friend, sister or brother for someone. How do you know that you aren’t entertaining  an angel? Scripture says, Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it.” (Hebrews 13:2)  Be patient.  Be kind. Be courteous. Be respectful. Most importantly remember … we are all  important. We are all capable of making a difference.
